TNT KaTropa recovered from a poor start as it downed the San Miguel Beermen, 115-105, in Game 3 of the 2019 PBA Commissioner’s Cup finals on Friday night at the Smart-Araneta Coliseum.
The KaTropa found themselves under the spell of San Miguel early in the game, as the Beermen erected a 36-19 advantage in the second quarter.
But TNT woke up from a deep slumber, going on a fiery 24-0 counter attack to turn the tables in its favor, gaining a 43-36 lead. It was all the KaTropa after that.
And despite the Beermen’s effort to inch closer in the payoff period, the KaTropa didn’t falter as they responded with another 12-0 rampage to pull away permanently.
As a result, TNT regained a 2-1 lead in the best-of-seven finals series.
Terrence Jones put up a workmanlike effort once more, tallying 37 points, 18 rebounds, nine assists, five blocks and just 1 turnover in 44 minutes of play, leading all 5 TNT starters in double-digit scoring.
RR Pogoy shined with 29 points in the win. Don Trollano stepped up, too, for the undermanned KaTropa contributing 18 points, while Jayson Castro tallied 14 points and seven assists. Troy Rosario added 13.
Meanwhile, Chris McCullough and June Mar Fajardo led the way for the Beermen with 27 points and 13 boards apiece.
Game 4 is set on Sunday, August 11, still at the Big Dome.
