San Miguel Beermen got back at the TNT KaTropa in Game 2, grinding out a 127-125 win in a double-overtime thriller in the 2019 PBA Commissioner’s Cup finals at the Smart-Araneta Coliseum Wednesday night.
With the game tied at 122-all, June Mar Fajardo made two free throws, while Chris Ross forced a turnover that resulted to an easy layup that put the Beermen ahead 126-122 with 17 seconds left.
Jayson Castro responded with a three-pointer to make it just a one-point game, giving TNT one more chance to either win or set up another overtime after Chris McCullough split his free throws for San Miguel.
However Castro missed two three-pointers in TNT’s final possession, as San Miguel ran away with the hard-earned victory.
McCullough had 32 points, 22 rebounds and seven assists, Terrence Romeo led the locals with 29 markers, Ross added 25, Cabagnot chipped in 19, while June Mar Fajardo contributed 12 markers and 10 boards for the Beermen.
For the KaTropa, Jones had 28 points, 13 boards, seven assists, five steals and three blocks before being thrown out of the game while Troy Rosario had made a career-high 34 markers before fouling out with 1:15 left in the second OT.
Game 3 of the best-of-seven series takes place on Friday, August 9 still at the Big Dome.
