San Miguel Beermen went on a pivotal third-quarter rampage to dump the Magnolia Hotshots in Game Two, 108-101, in the 2019 PBA Philippine Cup finals Friday night at the Smart-Araneta Coliseum.
After going in to the half-time break with a 51-41 lead, the Beermen flaunted their might and exploded in the third quarter, outscoring the Hotshots, 32-25, for an 83-66 cushion.
The lead eventually went as high as 21 points for several times in the final frame, resulting to a San Miguel victory that evened up the best-of-seven series at one game apiece.
Several players starred and scored in double figures for the four-time reigning champions, led by June Mar Fajardo who collected 16 points on top of 14 rebounds, four assists, two steals, and a block, as well as Alex Cabagnot who tallied 16 markers coupled with six assists.
Chris Ross and Marcio Lassiter bounced back from a Game One letdown, producing 15 markers each this time. Arwind Santos and Christian Standhardinger scored 13 points apiece, while Terrence Romeo had 13 markers as well but failed to finish the game following an ejection after incurring two consecutive technical fouls with 6:23 left to play.
Ian Sangalang showed the way for Magnolia with 18 points. Jio Jalalon flirted with a triple-double of 15 points, eight rebounds, and eight assists, Mark Barroca and Kyle Pascual chipped in 12 and 11 markers, respectively, while Paul Lee ended up with a double-double of 10 points and 10 rebounds, along with six assists that just went for naught.
Game Three of the series is on Sunday, May 5, still at the Big Dome.
