Phoenix Fuel Masters returned to the winning column as it fended off the Rain or Shine Elasto Painters, 86-84, in the 2019 PBA Governors’ Cup at the Cuneta Astrodome on Wednesday night.
Having the upper hand for most of the game, the Fuel Masters found themselves in a close battle at endgame, as Rain or Shine tied the knot at 84-all.
But new recruit RR Garcia proved his worth for his new team, coming through with a buzzer-beater shot to help the Fuel Masters escape with the win.
As a result, Phoenix ended a two-game slide and improved to 2-4 for the conference, while the E-Painters fell to 1-4 with three straight losses.
Eugene Phelps led the way with 19 points, 20 rebounds, seven assists, and five blocks for Phoenix, RJ Jazul had 15 markers while Garcia finished with 14 points, three assists, two rebounds, and a block.
Import Kayel Locke wound up with 29 points, 10 rebounds, and four assists to lead Rain or Shine. Rey Nambatac had 14 points, Javee Mocon had 12 points and 11 rebounds, while Gabe Norwood added 11.
