Rain or Shine Elasto Painters overcame a tough stand from the Alaska Aces, grinding out an 86-84 win in the 2019 PBA Commissioner’s Cup Saturday night at the Mall of Asia Arena.
Despite losing import Denzel Bowles due in the second quarter due to an apparent knee injury, the Elasto Painters still came through with the victory to improve to 4-5.
Mark Borboran stepped up in the absence of Bowles, scoring seven of his team’s last 12 points to nudge the Elasto Painters back into the win column and to the sixth spot of the draw.
Javee Mocon and Borboran had 11 points apiece, Rey Nambatac chipped in 10 markers, while Bowles finished with 16 markers before leaving the match.
Chris Banchero had 24 points and nine assists to lead Alaska, which have fallen to 4-6 after suffering its fourth loss in a row. Import Diamon Simpson had another 20-20 performance under his belt since his return as he finished with 22 markers and 23 rebounds, along with five assists, three steals, and two blocks in over 43 minutes of playing time.
