Rain or Shine Elasto Painters disposed of the Phoenix Fuel Masters in overtime, carving out a 98-94 victory in their 2019 PBA Philippine Cup clash at the Smart-Araneta Coliseum Sunday night.

It took extra five minutes, but the E-Painters did enough to emerge victorious and take hold of the top spot in the standings with a 6-1 win-loss card.

The Fuel Masters (5-1) meanwhile, fell to the second place after their unbeaten run got halted at five games.

Kris Rosales and Beau Belga led the scoring for Rain or Shine with 16 points apiece, with the latter also compiling nine boards and seven assists. Maverick Ahanmisi ended up with 13 markers and five boards, while Raymond Almazan and Rey Nambatac rounded up the five E-Painters in double digits with 12 and 10 points, respectively.

After the Fuel Masters erased a 14-point deficit in the second half and the trio of Calvin Abueva, Matthew Wright, and Jason Perkins sent the game into overtime, Rain or Shine recovered just in time as Nambatac broke the game’s last deadlock at 92-92 before Almazan nailed two crucial free throws and Mark Borboran hit a dagger floater to seal the win.

Perkins took the scoring cudgels for Phoenix with career-high 27 points on top of nine rebounds. Calvin Abueva had a double-double outing with 16 points and 12 rebounds, while Matthew Wright produced 16 markers as well to go with seven assists and five rebounds in a losing effort.
