NorthPort Batang Pier turned to its new acquisitions to trounce the Blackwater Elite, 127-99, in the 2019 PBA Commissioner’s Cup on Saturday at the Cuneta Astrodome.

Kevin Ferrer, Sol Mercado, and Jervy Cruz immediately made an impact in their first game wearing the NorthPort jersey, combining for 43 points to lift the Batang Pier to a 7-1 record that resulted to a share of top spot with the TNT KaTropa in the team standings.

The Elite, on the other hand, playing without an import for second straight outing, absorbed their second straight loss as well as they dropped to 5-3.

After a close opening quarter, the Batang Pier stepped on the gas in the second frame, as Sean Anthony joined forces with the newcomers to come through with a huge flurry for a 54-39 halftime advantage that they never relinquished.

Ferrer erupted for 23 points built on five three-pointers, on top of six assists and five rebounds. Anthony had 22 points on 50 percent shooting from the field, 11 rebounds, four assists, and three steals, while Cruz had 16 points and 11 rebounds. Robert Bolick flirted with a triple-double of 16 points, 10 boards, and nine assists, while Mercado added 14 markers, five rebounds, five dimes, a steal, and a block.

Ray Parks, Jr. led the scoring for the Elite with 25 points, 11 rebounds, four assists, a steal, and a block as replacement import Jameel McKay failed to secure necessary papers, forcing him to sit the game out.
