Rain or Shine Elasto Painters finally barged into the winning column after taking down the Barangay Ginebra, 104-81, in the 2019 PBA Commissioner’s Cup at the Big Dome on a Friday night.
Sophomore guard Rey Nambatac heated up from the rainbow country to lead the scoring for Rain or Shine, conspiring with former Best Import Denzel Bowles in leading the team to the blowout win.
After three outings, the Elasto Painters finally picked up their breakthrough win for a 1-2 slate, while they halted the two-game win streak of Ginebra, which dropped to an even 2-2 win-loss card.
Nambatac set a new career high as he exploded for 30 points — spiked by seven three-pointers — on top of two rebounds and an assist. Bowles filled the stat sheet with 25 points, 17 rebounds, six assists, two blocks, and two steals to frustrate the Barangay and his former coach Tim Cone, while Javee Mocon got 11 points, six assists, five rebounds, and two steals.
Justin Brownlee posted 30 points and 17 rebounds that just went to naught as Ginebra faced a deficit as huge as 25 points on the night they tried gunning for their record 1000th win.
