Meralco Bolts asserted its mastery, making short work of the Phoenix Fuel Masters, 111-94, in the 2019 PBA Governors’ Cup on Sunday at the Smart-Araneta Coliseum.
Leaning on a balanced scoring, the Bolts notched its second straight win to go 3-1 in the team standings, while they dropped Phoenix to 1-4 after back-to-back losses.
Import Allen Durham had 27 points, 12 rebounds, and three assists, while Baser Amer picked up from where he left off from their last outing, producing 26 points spiked by four three-pointers.
Raymond Almazan made 14 points and 12 rebounds, while Chris Newsome had a rare triple-double with 13 points, 12 rebounds, and 11 assists and also added two steals and a block. Bong Quinto wrapped up the five Bolts players in double figures with his 14 markers.
Meralco took advantage of the absence of Phoenix head coach Louie Alas, who got ejected with 7:31 left in the second frame for incurring two technical fouls. The Bolts then turned a narrow six-point lead to a 43-27 cushion in that quarter before they led by as much as 27 points, 88-61, early in the payoff period.
Eugene Phelps paced the Fuel Masters with 31 points and 24 rebounds, while RJ Jazul and RR Garcia contributed 11 and 10 points, respectively, for the struggling Phoenix.
