San Miguel Beermen snapped out of an uncharacteristic rut as it held off the NLEX Road Warriors, 109-105, in the 2019 PBA Commissioner’s Cup at the Mall of Asia Arena Friday night.
Leaning on the explosive debut of new import Chris McCullough, the Beermen thus ended a two-game losing streak and improved to a 3-5 win-loss record to revive their playoff chances.
McCullough, who finished with game-high 47 points along with 10 boards, was instrumental to the Beermen’s explosion in the third quarter where they turned a 56-57 deficit into an 88-63 lead that went as much 28 points.
Christian Standhardinger made 12 points and seven rebounds, as Marcio Lassiter and Alex Cabagnot chimed in 11 points apiece in the victory.
The Road Warriors responded with searing run of their own in the payoff period, but time was not on their side to complete the comeback.
Olu Ashaolu had 31 points, 15 rebounds, three rebounds, a steal, and a block to lead NLEX, who have fallen to 2-8.
