Magnolia Hotshots eked out a thrilling 88-86 over the San Miguel Beermen in the Game Five of the 2019 PBA Philippine Cup finals on Friday night at the Smart-Araneta Coliseum.
The Hotshots started out strong but somehow lost their momentum following a bizarre incident that happened with over three minutes left in the game when a streaker dressed as Spiderman caused a game delay after entering the basketball court, slamming and hurting June Mar Fajardo in the process.
Magnolia lost a six-point lead after the incident as the four-time defending champion San Miguel went on to tie the match at 86-all with 1:18 left to play.
But the Hotshots still got the last laugh as Mark Barroca calmly swished a long jumper as the final buzzer sounded to seal the victory, moving Magnolia on verge of dethroning the Beermen as they took a 3-2 advantage in the best-of-seven series.
Barroca ended up with game-high 22 points, while Ian Sangalang put up a double-double of 18 points and 14 boards. Paul Lee had 12 markers, while Jio Jalalon and Rafi Reavis finished with eight markers apiece, with the latter also hauling down 10 rebounds.
June Mar Fajardo’s led the Beermen in a losing effort with a monster double-double of 21 points and 22 rebounds, while Marcio Lassiter and Arwind Santos tallied 20 and 18 markers, respectively.
