Magnolia Hotshots continued to hit its stride in the 2019 PBA Commissioner’s Cup, rolling past the Phoenix Pulse Fuel Masters, 99-96, at the Cuneta Astrodome Saturday night.
After a 0-2 start to the conference, the reigning Governors’ Cup champions and the Philippine Cup bridesmaids have now made it three wins in a row to go above the .500 mark with a 3-2 slate.
Paul Lee and import James Farr sustained their fine play, finishing with 27 and 26 points respectively, with the latter also adding 18 rebounds, three blocks, and two steals across his name.
Meanwhile, Magnolia veteran Marc Pingris played for the first time after over a year of layoff due to an injury, logging in eight minutes of play and tracking down three boards in the victory.
The Hotshots actually held a 90-79 advantage that was enough to overcome Phoenix’s fightback in the final three minutes of the game.
Richard Howell paced the losing side with game-high 36 points and 20 rebounds, while Matthew Wright and RJ Jazul added 19 and 15 markers in a losing effort as the Fuel Masters fell to 2-4.
