Barangay Ginebra ripped out the Magnolia Hotshots’ hearts with a dominant 102-81 win in the 2019 PBA Commissioner’s Cup at the Smart-Araneta Coliseum Sunday night.
Cruising to their sixth win in 10 outings for a 6-4 record, the Gin Kings have now sealed a spot in the playoffs while they dealt the Hotshots their second straight loss to drop to 5-4.
Justin Brownlee proved he’s still a force to reckon with, shattering his previous career-high as he went off for 49 points along with 20 boards to complete a double-double performance.
Japeth Aguilar added 18 markers and nine boards, Stanley Pringle contributed 13 points, five assists and four steals, while LA Tenorio drilled in three three-pointers and a total of 12 markers as the defending champions scored a follow-up to their big win over the Alaska Aces the last time out.
Down by 46-47 at the end of first half, Ginebra flipped the switch again in the third period, going on a 25-5 blast for a 78-64 advantage and never looked back.
James Farr scored 34 points and grabbed 21 rebounds, while Mark Barroca and Ian Sangalang had 16 and 14 points, respectively for the Hotshots.
