Rain or Shine Elasto Painters took care of business against the Phoenix Fuel Masters, hammering out an 89-82 win in the 2019 PBA Commissioner’s Cup at the Ynares Center in Antipolo City on Sunday night.

The Elasto Painters turned to Denzel Bowles and Rey Nambatac in endgame, as the duo came up with big plays to spark a 9-0 rally that turned a 77-80 deficit to an 86-80 advantage inside the final two-minute mark.

After a 0-2 start to the mid-season tournament, Rain or Shine has now made it back-to-back victories as they improved to 2-2.

The Fuel Masters meanwhile, suffered a third consecutive defeat and fell to 1-3.

Bowles, a former Best Import of the same tourney, delivered with 28 on 11-of-14 shooting from the field plus 14 rebounds, five assists, one steal and one block against five turnovers.

Javee Mocon tallied 15 points, 10 rebounds, three steals, two assists, and two blocks in the win, while James Yap had 15 as well before leaving the match midway through the third period as he suffered an apparent groin injury.

Nambatac, who went off for 30 big points two nights ago against the Barangay Ginebra, settled for 11 markers this time around.

Richard Howell paced the Fuel Masters with 27 points and 11 rebounds before getting fouled out with over three minutes to go, while Matthew Wright and LA Revilla finished with 15 and 12 points, respectively in a losing effort for Phoenix playing minus suspended Calvin Abueva and coach Louie Alas.
