NorthPort Batang Pier turned to Robert Bolick in the clutch to deliver a 93-92 win over the Meralco Bolts, Friday night in the 2019 PBA Commissioner’s Cup at the Cuneta Astrodome.
Bolick delivered a tough layup with over four seconds remaining to wrap up the game and give the win to the Batang Pier, as Meralco’s Chris Newsome missed an undergoal stab in tight traffic at the buzzer.
Picking up their ninth victory at the end of their eliminations campaign, the Batang Pier improved their chances at nabbing the top spot as they hiked their record to 9-2.
Meralco, meanwhile, fell to a 3-7 record and now needs to win over San Miguel Beer in its final elimination-round assignment to stay in quarterfinal hunt.
The rookie Bolick led the in-form NorthPort and ended up with game-high 18 points including eight in the final quarter. Import Prince Ibeh finished with 15 points and 15 rebounds, but went 9-of-16 from the foul line, while Sol Mercado and Nico Elorde added 12 and 10, respectively.
Newsome contributed 21 points and six rebounds in a losing effort for Meralco, which also got a triple double from import Delroy James with his 17 points, 11 rebounds, and 10 assists.
