Rain or Shine Elasto Painters weathered a late run by the Magnolia Hotshots, getting away with an 86-82 win in the 2019 PBA Commissioner’s Cup at the Smart-Araneta Coliseum Wednesday night.
Staring at a 35-41 halftime deficit, the Elasto Painters took control of the driver’s seat in the third period before holding on for the win that improved their record to 5-5.
The Hotshots, meanwhile, dropped to a 5-5 win-loss record as well as they suffered their third straight loss.
Beau Belga top-scored for the Elasto Painters with 22 points on 8-of-14 shooting, five rebounds, an assist, and a steal. Replacing injured Denzel Bowles, new import Carl Montgomery stepped up as well especially in the endgame with two defensive stops. He gathered 20 points, 12 rebounds, four assists, two steals, and two blocks.
Ed Daquioag supplied 14 markers, five rebounds, four assists, a steal, and a block in nearly 33 minutes as Rain or Shine has now made it back-to-back wins to improve its playoff chances.
Ian Sangalang had 24 points, eight rebounds, two assists, two blocks, and a steal, while James Farr had 19 points and 23 rebounds against six turnovers in a losing effort for Magnolia.
