San Miguel Beermen flaunted its championship poise in the second half to pull off a sensational 72-71 win over the Magnolia Hotshots Pambansang Manok, Wednesday night in Game Seven of the 2019 PBA Philippine Cup finals at the Smart-Araneta Coliseum.
Completing a comeback from 17 points down, the Beermen thus extended their reign in the All-Filipino Cup for a historic fifth straight crown, clinching the franchise’s 26th championship overall.
June Mar Fajardo had another monster double-double performance with 17 points and league-record 31 rebounds, while Alex Cabagnot led all SMB scorers with 18 points, including the biggest shot of the match that he converted with less than a minute left that gave his team a 72-71 advantage.
The Beermen held on to that lead the rest of the way, as they swarmed Magnolia on the defensive end, resulting to Jio Jalalon missing a short stab and Paul Lee unabling to put up a decent shot in the final 4.8 seconds.
Ian Sangalang paced the Hotshots with 18 points as well, while Rafi Reavis and Paul Lee ended up with 11 markers each that went down the drain as Magnolia went cold in the fourth quarter after building a 17-point lead in first half.
