Alaska Aces came up with key plays down the stretch to prevail over the Meralco Bolts, 93-89, in the 2019 PBA Commissioner’s Cup Sunday at the Ynares Sports Center in Antipolo City.
The Aces locals took over late to deliver the win after Alaska lost hold of a 13-point cushion they’ve built in the third frame, as the Bolts managed to come to within one, 87-88, with 1:45 left in the game.
Picking up their third consecutive victory, the Aces thus improved to 4-2 as they broke the two-game winning streak of Meralco, which dropped to an even 3-3 record.
Chris Banchero showed the way for Alaska with 23 points, nine rebounds, and four assists, while Vic Manuel had 17 points, six rebounds, and two steals. Jeron Teng added 10 markers, four boards, and three assists, as import Chris Daniels was held to just 12 points and seven rebounds after being saddled with foul trouble.
Gani Lawal led all scorers with 27 points to go with 27 boards, while Baser Amer was the only Meralco local in double figures as he contributed 11 points, on top of five rebounds, four assists, and a block.
