Barangay Ginebra flexed its muscles and throttled the Blackwater Elite, 85-67, in their 2019 PBA Philippine Cup encounter at the Davao Del Sur Coliseum in Digos City Saturday night.
The Gin Kings broke loose in the first quarter before maintaining a sizeable cushion throughout the game to coast to their first back-to-back win of the season.
As a result, Ginebra thus got back above .500 with a 3-2 win-loss card, moving up to third place in the team standings behind the Phoenix Fuel Masters (5-0) and and the Rain or Shine Elasto Painters (5-1).
Scottie Thompson didn’t disappoint in his Davao homecoming as he filled the stat sheet with an all-around effort with 16 points, 11 boards, six assists, and two steals in 33 minutes of play.
Ginebra twin towers Japeth Aguilar (20 points, nine rebounds, and three steals) and Greg Slaughter (17 points, six rebounds, and two blocks) also made significant contribution on both sides of the floor, while Kevin Ferrer came off the bench and delivered 14 markers in the win.
Mike DiGregorio and Joseph Eriobu finished with 14 points apiece for the slumping Blackwater, which dropped to 1-5. Abu Tratter provided 13 markers on 5-of-10 shooting along with seven rebounds and five steals.
