Rain or Shine secures top spot with overtime win over Meralco

Rain or Shine Elasto Painters needed extra time, but in the end prevailed over the Meralco Bolts, 106-99, in the 2018 PBA Commissioner’s Cup on Sunday night at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.

The E-Painters were really tested by the gritty Bolts, but thanks to a 10-3 kick in overtime, they were able to seal the top seed and a twice-to-beat incentive in the quarterfinals, clinching their ninth win in ten outings.

Reggie Johnson finished the game with 21 points and 18 rebounds, while Maverick Ahanmisi collected 20 points, eight rebounds, and six assists. Chris Tiu wound up with 13 markers, five dimes, and four boards off the bench, while Ed Daquioag had 11 markers for ROS.

Despite Rain or Shine’s early explosion that led to a 64-51 edge at the half, the Bolts didn’t just roll over and die, as they came out alive in the third quarter, unleashing a 30-20 run to cut the deficit to 84-81.

The Elasto Painters took the Bolts’ best punches in payoff period, but held their ground in the extra session to control the game the rest of the way.
