Philippines loses to China in q’final match, bows out of Champions Cup contention

Chooks-To-Go Pilipinas ended its FIBA Asia Champions Cup title bid after bowing to China Kashgar, 86-70, in their knockout quarterfinal encounter on Thursday evening at the Chenzhou Sports Complex in Chenzhou, China.

Isaiah Austin finished with a double-double of 16 points and 11 rebounds, Kiefer Ravena also had 16, while Carl Bryan Cruz and Jett Manuel added 10 points apiece in the loss where the Philippines struggled anew from long distance, making just five triples out of 23 attempts.

The Philippine team were keeping it a manageable distance when China landed the knockout punches early in the final frame, eventually opening up a 21-point lead, 84-63, that proved to be difficult to overcome for the Filipino ballers.

With Gilas naturalized player Andray Blatche sitting out the game, Darius Adams and Xi Re Li Jiang took the cudgels for the China Kashgar, as the duo came through with 23 and 20 points, respectively.

The defending champion China will take on BC Astana of Kazakhstan in the semifinal round.

Chooks-To-Go on the other hand, fell to classification phase and will battle Shabab Al Ahli Dubai next.
