Philip Paniamogan went 7-of-9 from deep to record career-high 25 points to lead hot-shooting Mahindra in 105-92 scraping of Meralco in the first game of PBA Philippine Cup, Wednesday, at the Smart Araneta Coliseum. The Floodbusters matched today’s rainy weather when they poured 21-of-47 in a whopping 44 percent from the three-point territory.
With the win, Mahindra made it two victories in a row after going winless in their first five games. Alex Mallari remained solid for Mahindra after having a double-double night of 13 points and 11 assists while also grabbing 6 boards. But Mahindra, which led as high as 17 points, had too many unlikely players who came up alive in the game. Jason Deutchman and Nico Salva each had 13 markers while Digregorio and Escoto teamed up for 21 points. Meanwhile, coach Norman Black and his troops tried to save the game for Meralco. But every time the Bolts try to threaten, the Floodbusters readily answer.
Reynel Hugnatan produced 28 points and six rebounds for Meralco but had limited production from other teammates aside from Newsome and Amer. As a result, the Bolts hit the rock bottom of the team standings with a 2-6 slate.
