Magnolia Hotshots used a dominating fourth-quarter performance to beat the NLEX Road Warriors, 87-78, and take Game 5 of their 2018 PBA Philippine Cup semifinals series on Sunday night at the Ynares Center in Antipolo.
With the win, the Hotshots are now one step closer to playing in the finals for the first time since 2014, as they regained the series advantage, 3-2.
Mark Barroca produced 18 points, seven boards, two assists, and two steals, against only one turnover in 31 minutes. Paul Lee ended up with 15 markers, four assists, and three rebounds, without an error in almost 32 minutes of action.
Aldrech Ramos sparked Magnolia’s surge in the second half, as he finished with 15 markers and nine rebounds off the bench, while Ian Sangalang added an all-around effort of 12 points, 11 boards, six assists, and three blocks.
NLEX engaged the Hotshots in a close duel in the first three quartes until suddenly Magnolia stepped on the gas pedal in the payoff period and outscored them, 28-20, to establish a lead as high as 18 points that they never recovered from.
Kiefer Ravena stood out for the Road Warriors after pouring in veteran-like stats of 21 points, including 10 in the fourth, five assists, one board, and zero turnover in 31 minutes as a non-starter.
