Magnolia Hotshots flipped the switch in the second half to overcome the Rain or Shine Elasto Painters in overtime, 63-60, in the Game Seven of their 2019 PBA Philippine Cup semifinals encounter at the Mall of Asia Arena.
Staring at a 17-point deficit in the third period, the Hotshots woke up in the final frame but needed an extra session to finish off the second-seeded Elasto Painters in the best-of-seven series.
With the win, Magnolia will now head into the finals as they set up a best-of-seven rematch with reigning four-time champions San Miguel Beermen.
Ian Sangalang and Rafi Reavis made the most damage for the Hotshots especially inside the shaded lane, combining for 29 points and grabbing 15 and 20 boards, respectively, in the low-scoring ballgame.
James Yap fired 14 points, four rebounds, and three assists to lead Rain or Shine. Gabe Norwood had 11 points, seven rebounds, and four assists with two steals, while Jewel Ponferada and Beau Belga added nine and seven points, respectively. Maverick Ahanmisi had an all-around game with seven points, seven rebounds, three steals in the conference-ending defeat.
Game One of the best-of-seven finals series between Magnolia and San Miguel is slated on Wednesday, May 1, at the Smart-Araneta Coliseum.
