Magnolia Hotshots came out on fire and torched the Columbian Dyip, 126-101, in the 2018 PBA Commissioner’s Cup on Wednesday at the Smart-Araneta Coliseum.
As a result, the Hotshots coasted to their second straight win and a 2-1 record, while the Dyip slipped to 3-3.
Vernon Macklin typified Magnolia’s hot start, dropping all of his 19 points in the first half in which the Hotshots built a 72-43 distance before zooming further away.
The Magnolia import, who has played his penultimate game for the team after securing a guaranteed contract in China’s National Basketball League, added eight rebounds and a block in nearly 29 minutes of playing time.
Displaying a deadly inside and out game, the Hotshots jumped on sluggish Columbian early, storming to a 37-18 lead that grew to as much as 38 points in the payoff period.
Ian Sangalang picked up from where he left from their last game, finishing with 17 points and four rebounds while Paul Lee added 17 points, eight assists and two steals and Mark Barroca chipped in another 17 points to go with six assists.
Aldrech Ramos and Jio Jalalon rounded out the six Hotshots players in double digits, scoring 12 and 11 markers, respectively.
John Fields produced game-high 22 points and 19 rebounds for the losing side.
