Barangay Ginebra continued its winning ways as it dispatched the Meralco Bolts, 104-90, to complete its two-game sweep of their 2018 PBA Commissioner’s Cup quarterfinals showdown on Wednesday evening at the Smart-Araneta Coliseum.
From being down 1-5 at one point in the conference, the fifth-seeded Gin Kings have now made it seven victories in a row, and are set to make their sixth straight semifinals appearance at expense of fourth-seeded Bolts.
Justin Brownlee anchored Ginebra with 36 points, nine assists, six rebounds and three steals in 41 minutes, while Greg Slaughter provided for the second unit with 14 points and 10 rebounds in 28 minutes.
Ginebra overcame a flat start and an early 12-point deficit, banking on Brownlee’s 24-point explosion in the first half to take a 56-51 lead.
The Gin Kings continued to pounce on the Bolts in the third quarter, 23-14, for a 79-65 cushion that balloned to as high as 18, 85-67, in the 10:04 mark of the final quarter.
Meralco tried making a comeback when they came within six, 81-87, using a 10-0 rally. But Ginebra were hardly threatened as they retaliated with a 17-7 blast that brought the Bolts to their knees.
LA Tenorio collected 11 markers, five assists, three steals, and two boards, Japeth Aguilar had 10 points and four rebounds, and the Gin Kings will now await the winner of the series between Rain or Shine and GlobalPort.
