Barangay Ginebra ended a run of futility as it dominated the NLEX Road Warriors, 93-85, in the 2018 PBA Commissioner’s Cup on Saturday night at the Ibalong Center for Recreation in Legaspi City, Albay.
Leaning on a strong second half to break away for good, the Gin Kings revived their playoff aspirations as they picked up their second victory for a 2-5 win-loss mark, while the Road Warriors dropped to 2-6.
Justin Brownlee took charge for Ginebra, pouring a near triple-double outing of 23 points, 22 rebounds and seven assists against only three turnovers.
The Ginebra import made sure his effort would not be put to waste this time, as he delivered in the team’s rampage in the second half where they led by as many as 19 points, 85-66.
Japeth Aguilar tallied 13 points and two blocks, Greg Slaughter produced 12 points and 10 boards, while LA Tenorio and Kevin Ferrer finally woke up from a scoring drought and chipped in 10 and nine markers, respectively, for the Tim Cone-mentored squad.
Without Kevin Alas and Kiefer Ravena, Emman Monfort stepped up for the NLEX locals, finishing with 14 points to help import Arnett Moultrie who logged 30 points, 19 rebounds and four steals in a losing effort.
