San Miguel Beermen regained its winning ways after dismantling the Magnolia Hotshots in Game Four, 114-98, in the 2019 PBA Philippine Cup finals at the Smart-Araneta Coliseum Wednesday night.
Banking on June Mar Fajardo’s dominant performance, the Beermen thus brought the best-of-seven affair back to square one, tying the championship series at 2-2.
On a night he received his sixth straight Philippine Cup BPC award, Fajardo was clear cut above the competition, putting up game-high 31 points on top of 14 rebounds, an assist, and a block.
Fresh off a Game Three loss where he was held to just 17 points on 4-of-11 shooting, Fajardo went unstoppable inside the paint this time as he went 13-of-14 from the field while missing only one of his six free throw attempts.
Terrence Romeo, meanwhile, waxed hot from the three-point range and ended up with 18 points. Chris Ross had 15 markers and seven boards, Christian Standhardinger provided a double-double of 13 points and 14 rebounds, while Arwind Santos and Alex Cabagnot added 12 and 11 points, respectively.
The reigning four-time All-Filipino Cup champions started to pull away in the third period in which they went on a 6-0 start for their first double-digit lead, 61-47, that went as much as 17 points at some point in the final frame.
Backcourt partners Mark Barroca and Jio Jalalon led the way for Magnolia with 22 markers apiece, while Ian Sangalang finished with 19 points and 14 boards.
Game Five of the series is on Friday, May 10, still at the Big Dome.
